Prior to 2023, children and families in Southwest Virginia and surrounding communities had to travel several hours for even the most basic pediatric urological needs. Today, children in Southwest Virginia and rural areas of four bordering states have access to the full spectrum of high-quality, compassionate pediatric urology services—all close to home.

The PURE Fund (Pediatric Urology Research and Education Fund) was created to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of this vital program. Southwest Virginia is designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area, making it imperative that we recruit and retain highly trained, mission-driven providers and staff. Your support directly fuels this effort—helping us invest in education, innovation, and the people who make exceptional care possible.

Gifts to the PURE Fund may support:

• Educational opportunities for providers and staff at all levels

• Program-and team-building initiatives that promote staff well-being and retention

• Clinic resources specifically for our pediatric patients, including educational tools, anxiety-reducing aids, bathroom equipment and spare clothes (for children with urine and stool incontinence)

• Medical and surgical equipment with direct benefit to the children we serve

• Clinical and surgical outreach services, including satellite clinics and regional partnerships

• Community outreach programs focused on improving access and quality of care

• Research experiences for medical students and residents

• A visiting professor lecture series to bring national expertise to our region

• An endowed leadership position to secure the long-term sustainability and legacy of pediatric urology in Southwest Virginia
