Carilion Scholarships
The Carilion Clinic Foundation is proud to offer scholarships for students in the field of health sciences.
Information about our available scholarships, eligibility criteria and application specifics is below. Please click on the title of the scholarship to open the application.
The deadline for scholarship applications for Fall 2025 is close of business on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Carilion Health Focus Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to students from the Carilion service area who are pursuing a degree in a health care. These scholarships are available for associate, bachelor and graduate degrees in health sciences. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $5,000.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be pursuing a degree in health care.
- Has a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0.
- Is enrolled in or has been accepted by an accredited college or university within the state of Virginia.
- The applicant can demonstrate a financial need.
- The applicant maintains a permanent residence in one of the following Virginia cities, towns or counties: Bedford, Bland, Botetourt, Buena Vista, Christiansburg, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Lexington, Martinsville, Monroe, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Radford, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Salem, Smyth, Tazewell, Wythe.
Carilion Clinic Nursing Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to Carilion employees who are working toward a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing through an accredited college or university.
- The Doris and Lynn Morris Scholarship is designated for those who struggle financially (up to $3,000 per semester for one year.)
- The Babe and Sydney Louis Hyatt Scholarship is designated for those in nursing who have a sincere interest in becoming an R.N. (up to $2,500 per semester for one year.)
- The Seay Education Scholarship will award a scholarship of $1,000 to an employee working towards a B.S.N. degree.
- The JoAnn Brinkman Nursing Scholarship will give one deserving applicant $250 towards the cost of their education.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a Carilion employee who has been employed for at least six months and is currently working for a B.S.N. through an accredited college or university.
- Applicant must be enrolled at least part time, maintain a B average and must be in good performance standing with Carilion.
- Preference will be given to those who are currently employed by Carilion as a licensed tech, L.P.N. or N.A.
- Applicants will be selected based on their leader recommendations, personal statements, and performance history with Carilion Clinic.
- Employees receiving other scholarship awards from Carilion Clinic will not be eligible for these scholarship.
Criteria for all of the above scholarships
- The complete package must be submitted with all documents at the time of application.
- Scholarships will be awarded for the Fall semester.
- The recipient must use the funds for the academic year that the funds are given or forfeit the award.
- The recipient must maintain eligibility requirements and sign an agreement with Carilion Clinic Foundation regarding these requirements and use of funds.
- If an applicant is starting a program, a letter of acceptance to the program must be included in the application package.
- The applicant's name must be on the personal statement page.
- Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the named academic institution for use by the student and will be awarded based on the actual tuition balance.
- All sections of the application must be completed.
- Applications must be typed. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
CNRV Nursing Scholarship
The CNRV Nursing Scholarship shall provide financial assistance of up to $1,000 to a Carilion New River Valley employee who is enrolled in an accredited school of nursing seeking a degree. Funds from the scholarship may support tuition and required textbooks.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a full-time or regular part-time employee of Carilion New River Valley.
- The applicant must live out and show the values of Carilion Clinic and CNRV.
- The applicant must be enrolled in an accredited nursing degree program (LPN, RN, BSN, MSN or DNP.)
Requirements for the above scholarship
- The applicant must demonstrate a commitment to CNRV and Carilion Clinic.
- The applicant must not have any disciplinary actions in their employment file for the previous 12 months.
- The applicant must complete the semester that the scholarship is received.
- The recipient must sign an agreement with Carilion Clinic Foundation regarding the terms of the scholarship and the responsibility for those terms.

Radford University Carilion Scholarships
The Carilion Foundation offers scholarships for RUC students through the RUC Financial Aid office. Please contact the RUC Financial Aid Office for more information and application specifics.
The Dorothy S. Anderson Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student of Franklin County High School who is seeking a degree in nursing. Franklin County High School students should contact their guidance counselor to apply for this scholarship.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a graduating student of Franklin County High School who is seeking a degree in nursing.
- Applicant must be enrolled in a Health Science program full-time.
- Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited college or university.
